As shown below, more than a half respondents describe a diamond that is not real as “Man made, Imitation, Synthetic...”, and mention a real diamond as “Genuine, Natural, Unique, Rare...” . On one hand, we can see synthetic diamonds have not shaken the image of natural diamonds, on the other hand, more work shall be done to strengthen consumers’ recognition of natural diamonds.

As Jean-Marc Lieberherr has commented, “Element Six will set a new standard in disclosure and marketing of synthetic diamonds, which will in the end benefit consumers and bring much needed clarity to this new category.” What’s more, the return of generic marketing of natural diamond will further strengthen the emotional connection between consumers and diamonds, which is what the industry asks for and must do right now.
