“Mr. Jagger is your guardian, isn’t he? Mr. Jaggers is Miss Havisham’ssolicitor and knows all her business,” he told me. “He suggested that my father be your tutor. My father is also Miss Havisham’s cousin.”
He went on to tell me some more information and I felt that he had a very open and honest way about him. Later, I told him that I didn’t have any understanding of the polite ways of gentlemen and asked him to point out any mistakes that I might make. He readily agreed and asked me to call him by his first name, Herbert.
