（1）一個強調句式
下面的句子節選自The Economist對於越南太陽能產業的報道Vietnam grapples with an unexpected surge in solar power
The surge is all the more surprising given the terms on offer from Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the cash-strapped state-owned enterprise that runs the national grid.
文章背景是越南政府為了促進太陽能產業的發展承諾在兩年內為大型太陽能發電場提供補貼，這大大提升了該國的太陽能發電能力。節選的句子含義是：運營國家電網的越南電力公司是一家資金短缺的國企，鑑於其提供的條款，越南太陽能發電能力的快速增長更加令人感到意外。
這裡有一個值得學習的句式：XX is all the more…given… 其中all the more是一個固定表達，意思是“更加”，用於對事物進行強調。使用該句式時需要在上下文中點明讓事物變得更加不同尋常的原因，比如上文越南太陽能發電的快速增長之所以讓人感到意外，是因為越南電力公司提供的補貼條款很苛刻。
XX is all the more…given…意思是“考慮到……情況，XX因此顯得更為……”，我們可以使用該句型來強調事物的不同尋常，比如在談及中國高鐵的發展時可以說：
The Chinese high-speed railway network is the best in the world, exceeding 30,000 km in total length. This figure is all the more impressive given that the country started its high-speed rail program only 15 years ago.
（2）一個開頭句式
下面這個開頭句選自The Economist關於電子支付的文章A penny here, a penny there
FINANCE, THE ADAGE goes, is the art of passing money from hand to hand until it finally disappears. This will ring true to anyone who has tried to send cash overseas and found their remittance whittled away by commissions and lousy exchange rates.
句子意思是：正如一句古老諺語所說，金融是將錢左手倒右手直到最後消失的藝術。對於任何嘗試將現金轉到海外並發現其匯款被佣金和過高匯率扣除大半的人來說，這句話對他們同樣適用。
作者在開頭第一句引用了一句關於金融的古老諺語，並自然引出下一句，指出這一諺語對於海外匯款的人也同樣適用。這種引用名言來開頭的方式值得我們學習。第二句中ring true是一個固定搭配，意思是“（說法或解釋等）聽起來真實”，如果要表達相反意思可以說ring hollow
我們可以學習這種開頭方式，第一句先引用名人名言，第二句再引入要具體說明的事物，比如：

（3）對原因進行解釋
下面句子選自The Economist文章Why young people in Britain aren’t moving job
Bobby Duffy, a former opinion pollster now at King’s College London, argues that the reduced job mobility of younger people is less about an attitudinal shift and more about a change in circumstances.
文章探討了英國現今年輕人工作流動性減少的原因。上面句子的意思是：倫敦國王學院的鮑比·達菲之前是民意調查員。他認為，年輕人工作流動性的減少與其說是因為態度轉變，不如說是因為大環境的變化。
從這裡可以學到一個句型：XX is less about…and more about… 我們可以用該句型來表達“造成……的原因更多是因為……而不是因為……”，它在話題作文中有比較廣泛的應用，比如對於工作滿意度我們可以說：

（4）做……能夠讓人……
下面的開頭句選自The Economist對於美國畜牧業的報道Business has gone sour in America’s dairy capital
To walk around Dan Wegmueller’s farm in southern Wisconsin is to conjure up the past. He says each of his 50 Brown Swiss cows—with white-tipped ears and bells clanging from their necks—has a name and distinct personality.
句子意思是：在丹·韋格米勒位於威斯康星州南部的農場中散步能讓人回想起過去。他說，他的50頭瑞士棕色奶牛（每頭奶牛的耳尖都是白色的，脖子上還掛有叮噹作響的鈴鐺）每頭都有自己的名字和個性。
其中to…is to… 這一句型在地道英文中有著非常廣的應用，它的意思相當於“做……能夠讓人……”，比如BBC對於巴西的報道中有這樣一句話：
And to visit Brazil is to witness first hand the joy this sport brings to its people.
句子意思相當於：參觀巴西能讓人親眼見證足球這項運動帶給巴西人的樂趣。
又比如電影《悲慘世界》中有這樣一句臺詞：
To love another person is to see the face of God. （心中有愛便與上帝同在）
我們在寫作中也可以靈活應用這一句型，比如不少人很喜歡《哈利波特》，可以說：
