疫情形勢方面：
在4日下午的新聞發佈會上，衛生部長馬特·漢考克證實，迄今共有28734例冠狀病毒死亡，比昨天增加了288例，這是英國的冠狀病毒死亡人數處於3月份以來的最低水平。
他還表示，從明天開始，將在懷特島試用一款新的密切接觸者追蹤應用程序。它將被下載到智能手機上，並使用藍牙技術來計算與其他用戶距離的遠近，分析可能傳播病毒的情況。當有人開始出現症狀，或者檢測出冠狀病毒呈陽性時，應用程序上會有所顯示，提供用戶可能受到感染。
衛生部長說，聯絡追蹤應用程序將於5月中旬全面投入使用，目前已有數千人被招募試用。
疫苗研製方面：
漢考克還說，一旦有了有效的疫苗，政府可能不得不強制接種疫苗。“我們這樣做的依據是，這麼大一部分人口將接受這一政策，因為這對個人及其家庭、社區乃至整個國家都有明顯的好處，因此，在科學證明疫苗接種能夠安全開展的時候，對疫苗的需求將是巨大的。”
但他也說，沒有人保證會找到疫苗。“我們不能假設會有疫苗。任何現有的冠狀病毒都沒有疫苗。”
另據報道，英國的疫苗研製正在緊張進行，目前已有601人參加了牛津疫苗試驗。上週，由於英國政府提供了2000萬英鎊的財政支持，牛津疫苗進入了人體臨床試驗。
疫情研究方面：
據英媒報道，英國將對影響冠狀病毒健康結果的因素進行審查，分析種族、性別和肥胖等因素如何影響人們感染冠狀病毒的脆弱性。英國公共衛生局表示，將對數千名感染過冠狀病毒的人的健康記錄進行檢查，以建立更“可靠”的數據，說明什麼會影響人口中不同群體的病例數量和健康結果。
這項調查旨在更好地瞭解種族、貧困、年齡、性別和肥胖等因素對人們如何受到冠狀病毒的影響。
倫敦南丁格爾將停止接收病人。
位於倫敦的NHS南丁格爾醫院將停止接收病人。南丁格爾首席執行官查爾斯·奈特(CharlesKnight)在致詞中表示，一旦目前的病人離開醫院，病房將處於待命狀態。

根據英國衛生部公佈的數據，5月4日英國疫情如下：
截至5月4日上午9時，共進行了1 291 591次檢測，5月3日進行了85 186次檢測。檢測人數62,956人。
945 299人接受了檢測，其中190 584人檢測呈陽性。
截至5月3日下午5時，在英國檢出的冠狀病毒陽性者中，有28，734人死亡。這一新的數字包括所有情況下的死亡，而不僅僅是在醫院。舊統計規則下的相應數字為24 332。
