席夢在醫院看著卡爾，卡爾醒來後，席夢問卡爾怎樣了，卡爾說：說來有趣“You attempt suicide with a bottle of sleeping pills and when you finally wake up,they sedate you”
席夢問卡爾：當時是怎麼想的？卡爾說：“I was ashamed of the pain I had caused”
席夢說，她還是會和卡爾離婚，但是不會這麼快，並且是和平的離婚，她希望她的朋友像羨慕他們結婚那樣羨慕他們離婚。卡爾說，希望你的朋友不會可憐你。這時席夢說到：“Our friends don’t feel pity,only schadenfreude”
1、 attempt ：n.嘗試；試圖；企圖；殺人企圖；v.嘗試；試圖；努力；襲擊
例句：
Close your eyes and attempt to identify the sketch by running your fingertipsalong the raised outline.
閉上雙眼，試著用指尖沿著凸起的輪廓辨認草圖。
2、suicide：n.自殺；自殺性行為；自殺者；自殺之謎；自殺論自毀；自取滅亡的行為；adj.自殺的；自殺性的；v.自殺
例句：
When they refused, she returned to her village anyway and threatened to commit suicide if they forced her to go back to her husband's home.
倔強的蘇西拉逃回了孃家，並以自殺相威脅拒絕回到夫家。
3、sedate：adj.鎮定的；泰然的；不慌不忙的；寧靜的；水雲間；安靜的；穩重的v.給…服鎮靜劑
例句：
The first time I did this, I was really shocked by how much I could spend in a(quite sedate! ) afternoon and evening out.
我第一次這樣做的時候，就不禁為自己一個下午及晚上的支出而直打寒顫（雖然我在寫這段話的時候極力保持鎮靜）。
4、be ashamed of：以為…是恥辱；對…感到羞愧；慚愧；以…為羞恥
例句：
They ought to BE ashamed of themselves. It ought not to BE allowed. They shall be made to clear it up.
他們應該感到羞恥。這是不能允許的。應該要他們把它清除掉。
5、schadenfreude：n.幸災樂禍；治療鞭；別人的失敗就是我的快樂
例句：
But Schadenfreude is never a very satisfying emotion, and in this case it would be decidedly misplaced.
但幸災樂禍從來不是一種讓人感到相當滿意的情緒，而且在這個案例中顯然是不應該有的。
