Years ago, I watched and attended a talk about beatbox. Deeply impressed by its fluent and humorous English language, as well as the amazing human-mouth music, I immediately fall in love with this charming English language and the subcultures followed by it. Later on, when I tried a little bit Beat-Box, I realized English became necessary and a plethora of English video tutorial is needed to teach its kind of unique English terminologies. What’s more, as the the famous “Sapir-Whorf hypothesis”indicated, a new language you speak can provide a brand new way of perceiving and thinking of the world around you. So I also get a fresh mind and obtain the key to a colorful foreign culture.

1. You become smarter

Speaking a foreign language improves the functionality of your brain by challenging it to recognise, negotiate meaning, and communicate indifferent language systems.

This skill boosts your ability to negotiate meaning in other problem-solving tasks as well.

2.You build multitasking skills

According to a study from the Pennsylvania State University, this “juggling” skill makes them good multitaskers, because they can easily switch between different structures. In one study, participants used adriving simulator while doing separate, distracting tasks at the same time.

The research found that people who spoke more than one language made fewer errors in their driving.

3.Your memory improves

Educators often liken the brain to a muscle, because it functions better with exercise. Learning a language involves memorising rules and vocabulary, which helps strengthen that mental “muscle” .

This exercise improves overall memory, which means that multiple language speakers are better at remembering lists or sequences. Studies show that bilinguals are better at retaining shopping lists, names, and directions.

4.Your decision-making skills improve

According to a study from the University of Chicago, bilingualstend to make more rational decisions. Any language contains nuance and subtle implications in its vocabulary, and these biases can subconsciously influence your judgment.

Bilinguals are more confident with their choices after thinking it over in the second language and seeing whether their initial conclusions still stand up.

5.You Seem To Appear More Attractive

There’s something special about your friend who’s capable of switching between languages, right? Well, a recent international survey has just confirmed that bilingual people tend to appear more attractive compared to monolinguals.

Over 79% of survey respondents from around the globe agreed that a person speaking a second language instantly seems more appealing.
