最近在看書的時候看到，翻譯“幾千人”。
然後腦子裡自然就想到了 Thousands of， 看看答案，是Several thousand。
這裡就來分析一下這兩個詞。

先來看看這兩個詞的意思：
1、Thousands of 成千上萬、許許多多；數以千計的、幾千
I get thousands of letters from girls saying that I inspire them.
我收到了無數來自女孩的信，她們說我影響了他們。
Thousands of people took to the streets to welcome back their hero.
成千上萬 的人湧上街頭歡迎他們的英雄歸來。
They compiled thousands of case history to prove the relationship between smoking andcancer.
他們收集了數以千計的病歷來證明吸菸與癌症的關係。
The oil was discharging from the tanker at the rate of thousands of gallons an hour.
石油以每小時數千加侖的速度正從油輪中流出來。
2、Several thousand 幾千、數千名
這裡要注意的是 thousand 不能加s，也就是不能寫成 thousands。（在前面有具體數字或者several的時候，hundred 和 thousand 後面都不能加s）
Several thousand have signed up in the past year.
在過去一年內就有幾千人加入這個組織。
All we can see is an indistinguishable blob which is supposed to represent a planet seenfrom several thousand miles away.
我們所看到的只是一個模糊不清的小圓塊，據說那便是一個從幾千英里以外看到的星球。
這樣看的話，雖然兩者都同時有“好幾千”的用法，但是Several thousand只有好幾千的意思，而Thousands of 更多時候是“許多、成千上萬”的意思的。
與此類似的是，hundreds of 有“幾百、許許多多”的意思
several hundred 是“好幾百”的意思。
