眾所周知，free這個單詞用中文解釋是指“自由的、免費的”，但是，用英語解釋的時候，就會更加具體。
1. Not busy 不忙
指某人在某段時間內沒有特別的計劃或安排。請看以下例句：
I will be free on Sunday, so you can come.
週日的時候我並不忙，所以你可以來我家。
Could you keep Saturday night free for my party?
你能不能在週六晚上抽出空來參加我的聚會？
What do you usually do in your free time?
你空閒的時候通常會做什麼呢？
2. Not being used 沒有被使用或佔用
指某物沒有被使用或者沒有被佔用，即be free
There is a free seat in the back.
後面有一個空座位。
The computer is free now. you can use it.
這臺電腦現在沒人用，你可以用它。
There is not a free room for you to have a meeting at 10am.
上午10點沒有空閒的房間讓你們開會。
3. No payment 免費
3.1 be free
The ticket on Monday is free.
週一的票是免費的。
3.2 Free for sb
The coffee is free for our guests.
這裡的咖啡是免費向我們的客人提供的。
3.3 Free to sb
This book is free to you.
這本書對你是免費的。
3.4 For free
You can get the magazine for free.
你可以免費得到這本雜誌。
4. Not controlled 不受控制
表示不在他人控制之下，可以做自己想做的事情。
4.1 Free to do sth
Anyone who finishes the test can be free to leave.
任何人完成考試就可以離開了。
4.2 Feel free
You can feel free to turn to me if you have any questions.
如果你有任何問題，都可以來找我。
4.3 Free from sth
He wants to stay free from the team.
他想脫離團隊。
5. Not prisoner 獲得自由
From today on, he will be a free man.
從今天起，他就獲得了自由身。
He enjoys fishing, but he always set the fish free.
他很喜歡釣魚，但是他總是把魚放生。
6. Without something
表示某物不含有害成分或者某人不被不悅的事情影響。
Freefrom / of sth
The food in this supermarket is free from artificial colors and flavorings.
這個超市的食品都是不添加人工色素和人工香精的。
All the parents want their children free of danger.
所有的父母都希望他們的孩子遠離危險。
7. -free
一個名詞後加-free表示沒有該事物。
Duty-free免稅的
He bought a duty-free handbag at the airport.
他在機場買了一個免稅的包。
Sugar-free不加糖的
It is healthier to eat the sugar-free food.
吃不含糖的食物更為健康。
Fat-free不含脂肪的
It is not necessary for us to eat fat-free food ever day.
對我們來說並沒有必要每天都吃不含脂肪的食物。
