The Wanzai Port in Zhuhai will officially reopen on January 23 after major upgrades of its facilities. Ferry service between the Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal and the Wanzai checkpoint will resume, enabling passengers to travel from Zhuhai to Macao in about five minutes.
Totally 13 self-service channels and six assisted-service channels will be put into use at the arrival and departure halls, which are expected to handle about 3,840 crossings on an hourly basis.
The port will open for 15 hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, longer than before its operation was suspended nearly four years ago. Passenger ferries are scheduled every 15 minutes, and the number of trips per day will increase to 110 from the 34 trips previously. Ticket prices are as follows:
Residents of Zhuhai and Macao can enjoy a discounted ferry fare.
Tickets of the ferry service can be purchased at the Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal and the Wanzai checkpoint with a valid identification card.
As one of the two earliest ports in the coastal city of Zhuhai, the Wanzai Port is located on the southwest of the city and just 2.3 kilometers away from the Gongbei Port. It had recorded over one million crossings on a yearly basis before its suspension of service for a general updating of its facilities in 2016. To cater to the expected traffic demand in the neighbourhood, when the port resumes service, 160 parking lots will be put in place, and locations of nearby bus stops will be adjusted. A patrol vessel with firefighting equipment will be deployed for patrol operations in the Inner Harbour to strengthen passenger security.
