我們說苦逼苦逼
苦的發音裡要有個B
pill是藥丸或藥片的意思
swallow是吞
稍微說一下（對詞彙量還可以的同學說）
swallow還有“燕子”的意思
就是能夠飛的那個燕子
a bitter pill to swallow
字面意思理解為藥很苦
苦到不想吞
或者實在吞不下去
這麼理解確實無可厚非
但我們還是要了解它更深層的意思
這意思就是：
遇到很難的現實困境
又不得不與之打交道
就好像是這藥
不好吃，但又避免不了
因此，當遇到特別惱人棘手的困境
又沒辦法避免
我們就可以用上這個表達了
我們來看看例子：
1. John discovered the hard truth about responsibility. He didn’t get his college application in on time and the school won’t reconsider. It was a hard pill to swallow, but he had to learn the hard way.
約翰發現了一個關於責任的痛苦事實。他沒有及時上交他的大學申請，學校也不會對此重新考慮。這真是個棘手的處境，他不得不艱難地學著去處理。
2. Jill thought she was a good singer. When her brother told her she was tone-deaf, it was a bitter pill to swallow.
吉爾覺得自己是個很棒的歌手。當她哥哥說她根本連調都不懂的時候，她真覺得這是個慘痛的難以接受的事實。
