Happy Valentine's Day
情人节又叫圣瓦伦丁节，在英文中即Saint Valentine's Day。Valentine是一个人的名字。
2000 years ago, the most powerful army in the world <strong>belonged to the Romans.
2000年前，罗马军队称霸世界。
The Romans were so strong that they <strong>conquered almost all of Europe, and parts of Asia and Africa.
罗马人如此强悍以致<strong>征服了几乎整个欧洲，亚洲和非洲的部分地区。
But then they began to grow very rich, and a little bit lazy.
但是他们饱暖思淫欲，富有之后他们开始懒散。
Life in the army was harsh. And many of the soldiers <strong>long for the comforts of home. They wanted to get married and set up families.
军队的生活一向很苦。士兵们<strong>渴望家庭的温暖，他们想要结婚过自己的小日子。
The emperor whose name was Claudius Ⅱ, grew worried that his army was growing soft.
名叫克劳迪亚斯二世的皇帝越来越担心他的军队会因此失去战斗力。
And so he made a law that no soldier <strong>was allowed to get married.
于是他制定了一项法律不<strong>允许任何士兵结婚。
By that time, many of the Romans were Christians.
那时，许多罗马人都是基督徒。
And one of their leaders was a bishop, called <strong>Valentine.
他们的领导人之一是一名主教，名叫<strong>瓦伦汀。
瓦伦汀认为，相爱的人应该在一起。ღ( ´･ᴗ･` )
He believed that if a man and woman <strong>fell in love with each other, they should get married.
他认为，<strong>相爱的男女就应该结婚。
And so he decided to let soldiers get married in his church, even though now it was <strong>against the law.
明知<strong>违法，他依然<strong>决定让士兵们在他的教堂里结婚。
The soldiers' weddings <strong>were meant to be kept secret.
士兵们的婚礼<strong>是要保密的。
But as you know, all secrets are hard to keep. And soon the word got out.
但是众所周知，没有不透风的墙，很快就传了出去。
Valentine was <strong>arrested and brought before the emperor who demanded that he <strong>stop helping soldiers to marry.
瓦伦汀<strong>被捕，皇帝要求他<strong>停止帮助
士兵结婚。And instead that he prayed to the gods of Rome.
然而他向罗马战神祈祷。
When he refused, the emperor sentenced him to death.
因他宁死不从，皇帝判处他死刑。
瓦伦汀爱上了一个姑娘，而且发生了一件神奇的事情~ღ( ´･ᴗ･` )
While Valentine was in prison, the Jailer's daughter used to bring him his food.
瓦伦汀在监狱里时，狱卒的女儿常过去给他送吃的。
She was a young woman who was unfortunately blind.
她是一个不幸失明的年轻女孩。
She and Valentine used to spend long hours talking to each other. And soon they fell in love.
她和瓦伦汀常常聊很久。很快他们坠入爱河。
One day, Valentine put his hand through the bars of the cell and touched the lids of her closed eyes.
一天，瓦伦汀把手伸进牢房的栅栏，摸了摸她紧闭的大眼睛。
<strong>When she opened them again, she could see. It was a miracle.
神奇的是，自此她可以看到了。
情人节为什么定在2月14日这一天呢？后来，人们是怎样传达情谊呢？
<strong>Valentine's execution was set for 14 the February.
<strong>瓦伦汀的死刑定于2月14日执行。
On his last night on earth, he wrote his final message to the girl.
他在世的最后一晚，给她写了最后一封信。
He signed his love letter <strong>"From your Valentine."
署名：“来自你的圣瓦汀（情人）”
This took place in the year 270.
这发生在公元270年。
And ever since lovers have sent each other messages on February 14 with the same signature.
自此在2月14日，情人们在互赠的信笺上带有同样的署名。
你有收到信笺"From your Valentine"吗？其实自己也可以给自己写的，也可以女方主动写给男方的，期待你们的浪漫。
