來看兩個人的對話，瞭解foodball和soccer的區別
人物有兩個，一個用E代表，來自厄瓜多爾，一個用A表示，來自美國
E. My favorite sport is football. In my country, Ecuador, everyone likes football.
我最喜歡足球了，在我們厄瓜多爾，每個人都喜歡足球。
A. I think you mean soccer, don't you?
我想你說的是soccer,是嗎？
E. In Ecuador we say football, but football means something different for you, doesn't it?
在厄瓜多爾我們叫football為足球，但是對你來時，football代表不同含義，對嗎？
A. Yes.
E. What exactly is the difference between football and soccer?
football和soccer之間的差別在哪裡呢？
A. Well, for one thing, the ball is different. A soccer ball is round. A football isn't. A football player can carry or throw the ball, but a soccer player can't.
是這樣的，球不同，soccer球是圓的，而football不是。玩football的人可以把球拿著，還能扔出去，但玩soccer的就不行了。
E. A football team has the same number of players as a soccer team, doesn't it?
football隊和soccer隊有同樣的人數，對嗎？
A. Yes. They both have 11 players, but a football team really has 22 players. There are only 11 players on the field at one time.
對，他們都有11個隊員，但football隊其實有22個隊員，只不過同時在場的只能有11個人。
E. There are other differences, aren't there?
還有其他差別，是嗎？
A. Oh, yes. A soccer game lasts 90 minutes, but a football game doesn't. A football game lasts 60 minutes.
是的，一場Soccer比賽打90分鐘，而football打60分鐘。
E. I don't like football very much.
我一點也不喜歡football.
A. I don't either.
我也不喜歡。
E. I prefer soccer.
我喜歡soccer.
A. I do too.
我也是
E. That's strange. I thought all Americans love football.
好奇怪，我想所有的美國人都喜歡football
A. Maybe most do, but I don't.
也許大部分是，不過我不是。
那麼說了這麼半天，到底兩者是什麼區別呢？
Soccer和football其實都有足球的意思，只是它的使用人群略有不同。但是千萬別搞混，小心被白眼，小心惹爭執。
football粉色區域；而基本上足球英語單詞叫soccer的就是美國，加拿大，澳大利亞這幾塊大地方（藍色區域），而football在美國英語中表示美式橄欖球，也叫美式足球常寫作American football。
