這年頭，起個英文名可以說是居家旅行必備了~ 然而，當理髮店裡的Tony和Andy老師早已過氣，辦公室裡的Lily、Rose越來越少，連家裡的喵星人都潮了起來，這時，就有人擔心自己的英文名太老土，一定要絞盡腦汁推陳出新……

不久前，Angelababy登上美版《Vogue》雜誌，引來不少媒體網友圍觀（戳這裡回顧）。

對歪果仁來說，她的名字倒是十分搶眼。在文章裡，貼心的編輯就在她的名字後面加了個備註：“(the single name is her own invention) 這名字是她自創的”……

據《每日郵報》報道，這位妹子叫Beau Jessup，今年19歲，算是個星二代，她的媽媽是英國演員Lisa Maxwell。

Beau目前是名大學生，在倫敦政治經濟學院讀社會人類學專業。

最近，她透露自己通過幫中國家長給寶寶起英文名，已經狂賺了30萬英鎊。不僅大學學費都夠交了，還打算投資房地產……

The teenage daughter of Loose Women star Lisa Maxwell has revealed she made £300,000 helping Chinese parents pick an English name for their children and says that she intends to use the money to pay her university fees.

Beau Jessup, 19, from Edge, Gloucestershire has named more than 677,000 babies so far and also plans to invest in property.

She studies social anthropology at the London School of Economics.

Beau的爸爸是個生意人，有段時間，她跟爸爸在中國旅遊。爸爸一位生意上的夥伴王女士，當時請Beau幫忙給自己三歲的女兒起英文名。

Beau給小女孩取的英文名是Eliza，出自《窈窕淑女》（My Fair Lady）中奧黛麗·赫本飾演的女主 Eliza Doolittle。王先生夫妻倆都很滿意這個名字。

Beau set up SpecialName.cn after spending time in China and travelling with her father.

One of his business associates, a Mrs Wang, asked for help in naming her three-year-old daughter and when Beau suggested Eliza, after Eliza Doolittle, the woman was delighted.

這事兒之後Beau也開始瞭解到，近年來中國人對起個合適英文名的需求與日俱增。

不過，Beau也被聽到的一些中國人的迷之英文名給震驚了。比如有人叫“爆米花Popcorn”，還有人叫“甘道夫Gandalf”……

All Chinese babies are given a traditional Chinese name at birth, which is written in Chinese characters and used for all government documents.

There has been a growing demand in the last 20 years to adopt an additional English name that can be read, pronounced and printed in English.

Beau says she was dismayed at some of the names she heard, like Popcorn and Gandalf.

“他們（中國人）說起個英文名很重要，因為要申請出國留學，或者寫工作郵件時都需要用到。

'They explained an English name is vital because you can't use a Chinese name on email or a university application to the UK.

但我也聽過很多從文化上很不恰當的英文名，都是他們直接從電影裡找的或者網上看到的。

'But I also heard lots of examples where people had chosen culturally inappropriate English names they'd heard from films or read online.

這時我就意識到，幫中國人起英文名或許是個好機會。”

'It made me realise there was an opportunity to help Chinese people get it right from the start.'

後來Beau就創立了自己的起名網站Special Name.cn，專門為中國寶寶起英文名。目前Beau的網站已經為67.7萬的中國孩子起名，收入超過30萬英鎊。

To solve the problem Beau developed Specialname to suggest culturally appropriate English names to prospective parents based on their ideals and aspirations for their child.

And so far the website has made £309,557.40 from the babies named, CNBC Make It reported.

Posie replaces Olivia, the Number 1 girl name for 2018, while Milo takes the place of Atticus, 2018’s Number 1 for boys. Aurora and Maeve are other new entrants to the girls’ Top 5, while Theodore is a new Top 5 name for boys.
