文學翻譯當求妙合

文學翻譯上，我主張 “妙合之譯”（可譯為corresponding translation, 波德萊爾名作題為Correspondence，意為契合）。妙合者，譯者與作者悠然神會之謂也，如傅雷譯羅曼·羅蘭。許巍的唱詞 “生活不止眼前的苟且，還有詩與遠方” 廣為流傳，試譯如下: Life is not only for bread and butter, but also for poetry and wonderland.
傅雷先生
這是吾所謂新性靈主義在譯論和譯藝上的體現。文學翻譯亦須閃電般的照亮與靈感。所謂神會，是領會其精神，不是不要形式。若無神會，難得其真。神形兼備才是妙合之譯。神會是態度，是過程，神形兼備是結果。
玄虛點說，神會是凝神觀照，默體其真，近於伽達默爾所謂視野融合。通俗點說，神會就是嚼透了再譯。當下罕有人有此耐心。好多是拉過來就譯，半通不通，甚至狗屁不通，誤己誤人誤原作，是為三誤。
董伯韜認為，楊絳所謂 “一行一行譯” 比化境、神似都切實，樸素而天下莫與之爭美。試將《約翰·克利斯朵夫》的初版和現在的通行本對讀，傅雷推敲錘鍊之功歷歷可考。就提高譯藝而言，這比揣度何謂神似有用多了。

其實，楊絳翻譯《堂吉訶德》採用了 “點煩” 法，並非一一對應。簡掉可簡的字，就是唐代劉知幾《史通》、《外篇》所謂 “點煩”。芟蕪去雜，可減掉大批 “廢字”，把譯文洗練得明快流暢。這是一道很細緻、也很艱鉅的工序。
由於使用了刪繁就簡以務使文字洗煉的 “點煩” 法，楊絳的譯本比董燕生的譯本少了十幾萬字。這種譯法有改寫成分，難稱妙合之譯。

4、SLOW DANCE（慢舞）

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
你可曾觀察過旋轉木馬上的兒童?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
你可曾傾聽過雨水拍打地面?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
你可曾追逐過飄飛的蝴蝶?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
你可曾凝望著太陽從夜色中浮現?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
請慢下來，
不要快舞。
Time is short.
The music won't last.
時間易逝，
嘉曲無常。
Do you run through each day on the fly?
你是否每天都匆匆忙忙?
When you ask, “How are you?”
Do you hear the reply?
當你問候別人 “你好嗎?”
你是否來得及聽到回答?
When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?
當一天結束，
你躺在床上，
腦海裡會否盤旋著
成百件未了瑣事?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
