he thought he could still play and was pretty useful his last year in boston when he wasn't injured. i don't think he planned his last year to be his last year until he realized the injuries weren't going to stop. He signed for two years with Boston but only played one and kept trying to comeback.

Kind of sad Shaq didn’t have a real send off, I think he was too hurt to play after maybe 2008, but kept going anyways. I think he should’ve retired with Miami, but really the best case would’ve probably been staying in LA and retiring there.

I mean, it would have helped if people had actually known he was retiring and he didn't miss over half the season with a dozen different injuries he had to rush back from due to the Perkins trade.

Still, farewell tours are always better with lont time fans cheering you.
From my understanding, Orlando got his first years but not his most famous years.
Lakers gor his best years but it ended in a shaky way and not with fans seeing"the struggle".
Miami got a chip but this is also Wade county. And a quick pass.
Then there is PHX, CLE, BOS who saw him being dominant but not go far..
His farewell would be good but not on the same level team Lifers less famous would get from their hometown.
但是，告別巡演總是在有長期球迷為自己喝彩的時候才更好啊。
我的理解是，魔術擁有了鯊魚的生涯早期，而不是他最出名的那幾年；
湖人有他最強的幾年，但最終分手時很不光彩，球迷們也沒看到他的“掙扎”；
熱火拿到了冠軍，但那是韋德的國度，而且鯊魚在那也沒呆幾年；
然後是太陽、騎士、綠軍這些見證過他統治力的球隊，但是都沒在季後賽走得太遠……
如果當年有機會，鯊魚的告別巡演會很精彩，但不會像那些沒他有名但從一而終的球員在家鄉受到那麼多的尊崇。
