Speech of Mbelwa Kairuki (Tanzania's ambassador to China) at the Press Conference for the 15th CAEXPO Special Partner Country

We are very honored to join the China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO) as the Special Partner Country in the year, when China is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the opening-up reform.
This reform, proposed by Deng Xiaoping in 1978, has made China progress economically and socially, and achieve great things that have made impact not only in China but also in the world.
Today's China is a major country with very important and great contribution to the global peace, global governance, and global development, thanks to the reform that took place 40 years ago.
This CAEXPO is to take place in a very important year for China-Africa relations. As you know, in less than 20 days, there is an important forum for China-Africa Cooperation that is convened by H.E. President Xi Jinping in Beijing. This CAEXPO will take place just a week after the important forum.
So, participation of an African country as the Special Partner to the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) is a clear manifestation and presentation of Chinese commitment to see that Africa is given an opportunity at any initiative for the development between China and other countries.
As we know, this CAEXPO has to do with One Belt, One Road, which Tanzania, I think, is one of the first countries to support and participate in.
This CAEXPO is a proof that the One Belt One Road initiative is not an empty slogan, is not an empty talk, but rather a series of activities happening for regional and global cooperation. This CAEXPO is more than clear that this event is implementing One Belt One Road Initiative.
Tanzania is very pleased to be associated with the One Belt One Road. Actually, Tanzania is very grateful for H.E. President Xi Jinping for coming up with this visionary and innovative idea.
Tanzania has some expectations on the forthcoming China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO) . We hope to promote the trade relations not only with China, but also with the 10 ASEAN countries.
Trade between Tanzania and China has been increasing over the past 10 years. But our hope is that by participating in this CAEXPO we are going to create even more business opportunities for the trade not only with China, but also with the 10 ASEAN countries.
We are also hoping to attract foreign investment from China, foreign investment from the 10 ASEAN countries after we take part in this event.
We are also expecting to promote tourism opportunities that can attract both visiting and investment.
Tanzania enjoys many beautiful tourism sites ranging from Mount Kilimanjaro, which is highest mountain in Africa, and Serengeti National Park to Zanzibar island, which has the most beautiful beaches that you can rare see,
Due to the importance of this event, Tanzania's delegation is going to be headed by the Second Vice President of Zanzibar H.E. Amb Seif Ali Iddi. Amb. Iddi has great relationship with China, because he served as an officer here in the Embassy in the 1980s and as Ambassador in the year of 2000. So he knows China all those years in the opening-up and reform policy. We hope that his participation this time will give him a new outlook of China.
Lastly, let me conclude by thanking the government of China, particularly the Ministry of Commerce and the China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO) Secretariat, for giving us the opportunity to participate in this year's CAEXPO as the Special Partner Country. We are also very grateful for providing Tanzania with the National Pavilion of 180 sqm to showcase country image and business opportunities of our country.
We also thank them for giving opportunities to our businesses. 20 of them will participate in this CAEXPO to showcase different products of Tanzania ranging from coffee, tea, honey and spicy. 20 enterprises from Tanzania will use 20 booths to showcase these products.
I hereby would like to invite everybody who visits this CAEXPO to come and see the Tanzania Pavilion and those products displayed by Tanzania enterprises. Thank you.
