The recreational activity is of utmost importance for one’s life. We can experience a great many recreational activities on campus. For example, I once joined a tennis club and enjoyed my life there.
There are several aspects concerning recreational activities. On the one hand, nowadays, college life tends to be very stressful. Recreational activities can relax our minds and release our pressure. Also, a student can widen his circle of friends through these activities. One can find friends with the common interest. Besides, recreational activities can also broaden our horizons and make us wise. However, there are drawbacks. Recreational activities may interfere with our study. Therefore, students cannot concentrate on their learning and may even fail in the exams.
To sum up, the recreational activity is just like a double-edged sword. We might bear in mind that it can exert both positive and negative influences on our society. However, we can avoid those undesirable effects, when making full use of it.

This line chart provides some interesting data regarding the average time spent on social media for Internet users and non-users each day in a certain city. The average hours spent on TV per day for the Internet non-users reach as much as 2.53, a figure much larger than those for the Internet users. On the contrary, each Internet user usually spends 1.43 hours per day on books while the Internet non-users only spend an average 0.94 hours each day on books.
There are two fundamental factors contributing to this tendency. To begin with, technological innovation really brings us much convenience, exerting a huge impact on our traditional cultures. Many netizens watch TV shows not through television but via the Internet. Furthermore, reading books plays an essential role in our life. Reading increases our knowledge and skills, broadens our horizon and widens our circle of friends. As a result, reading is equally important for Internet users and non-users.
To sum up, I can safely draw a conclusion that the Internet is a double-edged sword. Whether it is a boon or a bane will be discussed for a number of years to come. However, one should make sensible use of the Internet, being a master rather than a slave of it.
3. 環境保護
點評：環境保護類主題好幾年沒考了，今年依然不是重點，然而大家還是要關注節約水資源/海洋資源/森林資源等問題。
As is symbolically portrayed in the pictures, with the rapid social and economic development, the number of fishes has sharply decreased. In one picture, there were various kinds of fish and only one fishing-boat in 1900. On the contrary, in 1995 there was only one fish, but many fishing-boats.
The purpose of this picture is to show us that due attention has to be paid to the decline of ocean resources. Due to over-fishing, the number of fishes has obviously shrunk. If we let this situation continue as it is, we do not know where fish will be in the near future. By that time, our environment will suffer a great destruction. Similarly, we are suffering greatly from the environmental destruction, which becomes increasingly severe. If there are less and less trees, then nothing can prevent the sand storm and dust storm.
Therefore, it is imperative for us to take effective actions. We should appeal to our governments and authorities to enact strict laws and regulations to regulate commercial fishing. I assume that we humans can surmount this difficulty, and we will have a brighter future.

點評：關於科技類已經一段時間沒有涉及了，個人認為網絡的熱度並未消除，相反與其相關的內容非常容易考察。比如網絡和隱私，網絡與危機，網絡和傳統。
The Internet has penetrated every aspect of daily life and exerted a huge impact on our life. For example, Microblogs and Wechat are two forms of new media. Various people, regardless of their age, gender or background, are involving in creating their own microblogs and using Wechat.
Opinions vary greatly when it comes to whether these new technology is a boon or a bane. Time and again, science and technology has created wonders and even miracles, thus fortifying our belief in it. Technological innovation really brings us much convenience, exerting a huge impact on our traditional cultures. However, there is a growing concern about the potential drawbacks the Internet, especially in terms of personal security. For example, WeChat may expose one’s location to strangers by positioning function, cheat one’s friends by faking identity, and lose one’s money in the electronic wallet.
Owing to the accelerated pace of contemporary life, people’s work and life are increasingly confined to a narrow space. However, in face of new technology, we should be prudent. On the macro level, the government and authority should make relevant policies and measures. On the micro level, we should learn to make rational use of the Internet and protect our own information.
5. 健康服務
Directions: Write a letter to the president of your university, suggesting how to improve students’ physical and mental condition/the canteen service on campus (food safety)/the service in the library.

I am one of the senior students in our university. I have recently found that many students are in poor health condition. I am writing this letter for the purpose of providing you some suggestions concerning the ways to improve our physical conditions.
To begin with, with the quickening pace of urban life and ever-increasing pressure, people in growing numbers are suffering from either the physical or mental problems. Also, mounting peer pressure and confusion over changing social values may also climb onto youngsters’ already overburdened shoulders. Doing exercise can help us relax and unwind. To improve students’ ability and enrich after-class activities, the Postgraduate Association in recruiting volunteers for an international conference on globalization to be held on December 9, 2017 in Beijing.
The potential candidate should meet the following criteria. To begin with, applicants should have Chinese nationality, a strong professional spirit, cheerful personality and be aged under 35. In addition, candidates must have outstanding skills at English listening. Finally, students with relevant professional experience are preferred.

In fact, the metaphorical pictures intend to reveal that different people have different attitudes towards happiness. Considering the importance and necessity of this situation, I feel responsible for discussing it further. To begin with, as the job market is getting gloomy and competition is becoming fierce, it is increasingly difficult for college undergraduates to find a decent job. Happiness for me is to find a satisfactory job and to earn money to support my life. Furthermore, the late 90s had seen the birth and boom of the Internet, which was starting to convince people of its advantage in speeding up communication. Happiness for me is to acquire knowledge of computer science. Finally, with the rapid development of the economy and society, public morality has declined to an extent. More and more people are becoming indifferent or scared to help people in trouble. Happiness for me is to help those in need.
To sum up, everyone should pursue his or her own happiness. The time is right for us to take full advantage of ample existing opportunities. Happiness does not lie in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievements. Only in this way can our society become a better place for us to live in. (247 words)

This line chart provides some interesting data regarding the proportion of students who gain the knowledge of Peking Opera in an American college. The number of students who have a clear grasp of Peking Opera increases moderately from approximate 3% in the 1950s to around 9% in the 1980s, but rise substantially to nearly 80% in the 2010s.
There are two fundamental factors contributing to this tendency. To begin with, the reform and opening-up policy in China has led to rapid economic growth, which has given rise to a higher standard of living. A growing number of Chinese people can travel or study abroad, bringing Chinese culture to foreign countries. Furthermore, technological innovation really brings us much convenience, exerting a huge impact on our traditional cultures. The American students can learn more about Chinese cultures online. The tendency in the chart can well reflect this social change.
With regard to this social tendency, I believe it is inspiring and positive. It is imperative that we should take actions to advocate the phenomenon. As this trend is still in its infancy, we believe it will no doubt go further and lead to future prospect.
3. 流行現象
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic of “Idol Worship/Internet Celebrity/over-packaging”.
點評：過度包裝，偶像崇拜，電視廣告都可以用同樣的思路和素材。
Idol worship has become one of the most important representatives of popular culture in China. The past several years have seen the idol worshipping craze. Fans crazily pursue their idols in drama, movies, or live music concert. As a result, this phenomenon becomes increasingly evident and eye-catching, which definitely plays a role in students’ growth and development.
There are several reasons behind this trend. The primary factor lies in education system. Nowadays, most students usually concentrate merely on their school performance but neglect other important aspects in life, such as psychological status. Therefore, students have to look for their role model in real life. Furthermore, it is the mass media that should be blamed. Pop singers and all the other entertainers always present their glamorous appearance and personality that young people desire to have. However, young people are just not mature enough to tell fact from fiction.
There is much controversy over whether this tendency is a boon or a bane. As far as I am concerned, it is just like a double edged sword. Excessive worship could only lead to undesirable consequences. One should pay much more attention to his study and work.

It goes without saying that cooperation is of utmost importance in our study and life. With the development of economy and society, people in mounting numbers lay great emphasis on teamwork. This spirit obviously exerted a huge impact on our society.
There are. To begin with, schools nowadays tend to pay special attention to the students’ academic scores rather than their morality or spirit. However, this spirit could be regarded as a traditional Chinese virtue that could be handed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, cooperation is truly the fundamental attribute of top performers, which separates the high achievers from the rest of the pack. For example, honored for his success in basketball, Yao Ming is always remembered for his ability of teamwork, which shines through every page of his life.
To sum up, one should attach great importance to teamwork in today’s society. The time is right for us to take full advantage of ample existing opportunities. We should do our utmost to promote and advocate this spirit. Only in this way can our society become a better place for us to live in.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay explaining why it is unwise to put all your eggs in one basket. You can give explanations to illustrate your point. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
點評：名言類和圖畫類作文防不勝防，這類題目只能記住形式，填充內容。本押題做一範例。
Choosing a right strategy can exert a huge impact on our success. An English saying goes like this: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. What it wants to reveal is that it is unwise to be totally dependent on one resource.
There are several reasons contributing to the validity of this principle. To begin with, it is rather risky to put all the hope in one place. If one can have a contingency plan, it can deal with the unexpected when it comes to important event. What’s more, focusing on all the aspects at the same time contributes to a more balanced life. Suppose one would like to be admitted into a college. It is of vital importance for him to apply for several colleges. In this way, there is a better chance for him to be admitted.
Therefore, it is inadvisable to put everything on a single venture. Having a backup plan could help one lead a better life.
