10種常用的地道英語口語
看美劇的時候，我們總是聽到很多地道的口語小句。想到自己的口語，太中式了有木有？所以呢，果斷記下一些常用的地道口語表達並速速用起來啊！
1. Do you have any pet peeve?
你有什麼樣的怪毛病嗎？
所謂的 pet peeve 就是個人生活習慣上的一些小毛病， 例如有些人不喜歡別人碰他的電腦，pet peeve 與 bad habit不同。通常 pet peeve 都是比較無傷大雅的小毛病， 幾乎每個人都有屬於他自己的 pet peeve，所以就有老美說過， "Everybody has his pet peeve." 當然 pet peeve 也常常成為老美彼此開玩笑的話題。 "Friends" 有一集就是兩邊人馬在比快問快答， 而其中有一類的問題就是 pet peeves，蠻有意思的。
如果是這個壞習慣大到會影響別人， 像是在公共場所老是講話很大聲， 這就不是 pet peeve, 而要用 annoying 來形容. 常聽老美抱怨， "Don’t you think he is annoying?" (你不覺得他很煩嗎？)
2. Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think we still have to invest it.
或許這麼做有點冒險， 但我想我們還是要投資它。
一般人想到冒險， 直覺的反應就是， "It’s risky" 或是 "It’s dangerous." 但是囗語上老美喜歡說， "I’m going out on a limb." 來表示這件事需要冒險。這個 limb 原意是指樹枝， 想象當你爬樹時爬到小樹枝上去了，你是不是不知小樹枝什麼時候會斷掉？ 這種不確定的危機感，就是為什麼老美要用 "go out on a limb." 來表示冒險的原因了。例如你來到一個清澈的河邊， 你很想下去游泳， 但四周又沒有救生員， 這時你就可以說， "Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think I am gonna try it." (我知道這麼做有點冒險， 但我還是要試試看。)
3. I don’t have skeleton in my closet.
我沒有什麼不可告人的秘密。
每次競選， 一定會看到候選人爭相證明自己的過去是清白的， 沒有什麼不可告人的秘密。這句話在英文裡要怎麼講呢？ 當然最簡單的說法就是， "I don’t have any secret in the past." 但是這樣的說法不如俚語的用法 "I don’t have skeleton in my closet" 來得傳神。在這裡 skeleton 是指骷髏， 而 closet 是指衣櫃的意思， 各位不難想象， 一個人把骷髏藏在自己的衣櫃裡做什麼？ 一定是有不可告人的秘密. 例如你在高中時考試作弊被抓到， 還被記了一個大過， 但你長大之後這件事再也沒有人提過， 所以你也不想別人知道。這件考試作弊就變成你的 skeleton in the closet。
4. Are you sure you are going to set us up?
你確定你要幫我們製造機會嗎？
在英文裡製造機會可不是 make a chance 喔！ 雖然這是大家最自然會想到的說法。正確的說法應該用 set up 這個片語， 例如 set you up 就是幫你製造機會的意思。另外， 老美也很喜歡用 fix up 和 hook up 來表示撮合某人。例如你有一個妹妹長得還可以， 你想把她介紹給你同學， 你就可以跟你同學說， "Do you like my sister? I can fix you up." (你喜歡我妹妹嗎？ 我可以撮合你們。)
5. Probably. It’s still up in the air.
大概吧，但還不確定。
不知道各位有沒有這樣的經驗， 你問他我們今天見面要做什麼， 他說我也不知道， 到時再看看吧。其實這種情形中外皆然， 各位不必驚訝。到時候再看看也是老美常說的一句話， 簡單的講法就是， "I haven’t decided yet." "I haven’t made my mind yet." 或是 "We’ll see." 就可以了， 不然的話你也可以小小地賣弄一下英文， "It’s up in the air."
另外 "It’s up in the air." 比較俏皮的翻法就是： "八字還沒一撇呢！" 例如別人問你， "Are you dating Jennifer now?" (你跟 Jennifer 開始在約會了嗎？) 你就可以答， "It’s up in the air." (八字還沒一撇呢！)
6. Okay. Just checking.
好吧，我只是隨囗問問。
在囗語中我們常會講， 沒什麼， 我只是隨囗問問而已。這個隨囗問問在英文裡當然你可以講， "Just asking." 但事實上呢？ 大多數的老美都會說， "Just checking." Check 當動詞用一般指 "檢查", 例如你想進來時可能忘了關門， 你就可以說， "Go check if the door is still open." (檢查看看門是不是還開著。) 但是老美說， "Just checking." 時， 這個 check 要翻譯成 "隨囗問問" 會比較通順一些. 這句話老美用得很多， 非常值得把它記下來。
另外有一種情形， 比如我們說了一些無關痛癢的小事， 別人也沒聽楚， 當他再問你剛才說了些什麼事， 也許你不想再覆述一遍。這時你可以說， "Just a though."; "Just an idea." 意思就是我只是隨囗說說而已。不然的話也可以說， "Never mind." (沒什麼大不了的， 不用操心。)
7. Do we need to hit a shower first?
我們需要先洗個澡嗎？
Hit 是一個老美很喜歡用， 但老中很不會用的動詞， hit 指的是去開始做某件事。囗語中老美喜歡講， "Let’s hit it.". 例如搖滾樂團的主唱常會看看吉他手， 鍵盤手， 貝斯手準備好了沒， 如果大家都準備好了的話， 他就會大喊一聲， "Let’s hit it." 這就代表 "Let’s go." 。
類似的用法還有hit the bed(睡覺)， hit the road(上路)， 都是蠻值得學的用法。
8. That’s OK.
不用了。
大家相信嗎？ "That’s OK." 和 "OK." 指的是完全不同的意思。 如果別人問你要不要先洗個澡啊？ 你答， "That’s OK." 就是不要的意思， 答 "OK." 卻是要的意思。
記得有一次老美來我家作客， 我問他， "Do you need something to drink?" 他說 "That’s OK." 我想 "OK." 就是好的意思啊， 當然趕緊把茶水奉上， 老美一臉莫名其妙的表情。要記住， 當別人說， "That’s OK." 就表示 "I’m fine." 我很好， 你不用操心的意思， 言下之意就是你不用麻煩了， 我會照顧我自己。所以要記住， "That’s OK." 其實有沒關係， 無所謂的味道在裡面. 所以如果你要明確的拒絕的話， 可以這麼說， "That’s OK. I don’t need anything to drink."
9. Just right place, right time.
只不過是天時地利而已。
大多數的人想到幸運， 都會直覺反應 lucky，但其實 lucky 有很多種表示法。比如你問老美怎麼追到這麼一個如花似玉的女朋友， 他回答， "Just right place, right time." 是不是立刻聯想到了中文裡的， "天時地利人和" 這句話？ 沒想到英語裡就這麼簡單， "Right place, right time." 就解決了。(或許應該再加上 right girl?)
10. Same here.
我也是。
大家看到中文 "我也是" 的時候， 百分之九十九的人 "me too." 會立刻脫囗而出，甚至有些人還會說， "So do I." 老美是會說， "me too." 和 "So do I." ，但好像太平常了一點。
比較酷一點的講法應該是， "same here." 它完完全全就等於 "me too." 例如上網聊天最後大家常會說， "All right. I have to go to bed now." (好吧， 我該去睡覺了。) 這時對方就可以回答， "same here." 表示我也該睡覺了。或是像老美在彼此自我介紹時， 通常一個會先說， "Nice to meet you." 另外一個人就會說， "me too." 但我也聽過老美說， "same here." 所以這個 "same here." 是完完全全等於 "me too." 的。

10句不要和老闆說的話
You may get along well with your boss but there will always be that specific instance where you want to say more than you should. Here are ten things that you should not say to your boss.
也許你和你老闆相處得很好，但總是會有一些特殊的場合，你想說的話多於你應該說的。下面是你不該和老闆說的10句話。
1. In a minute. 等一會。
Sometimes you'll get called into the boss' office just as you're about to do something that you've been waiting to do. Bosses don't often view our personal wants as an important factor to the job,so when your boss calls you in to see them, it's not good to say you'll be there in a minute.
有時老闆讓你去他辦公室的時候，你正好要做一些你一直等著要做的事情。事實上老闆們並不把我們個人的需要看成是工作中一個重要的因素，所以當你的老闆叫你去見他的時候，最好別說等一會過去。
2. Oops, I forgot. 啊!我忘記了。
And we do get so busy that we can't remember everything, but some things may not be well received when we say that. So, instead of saying you forgot, try, "I"m on it but I haven't got through to them yet'. It's like saying the glass is half full instead of half empty. They mean the same; one just sounds better.
當我們很忙的時候，我們不可能記得所有的事情，但是有些事情當我們說忘了的時候，老闆們也許就會不高興。所以，你可以說，“我正在做，但是還沒有完成”而不是直接說你忘記了。這就像是說玻璃杯裡的水是半滿著而不是半空著一樣。它們的意思是相同的，只是另一個聽起來更好。
3. No! 不行!
If the boss comes to you with a project to do, it's not always in your best interest to refuse to do it. You could suggest someone else do it or declare how busy you already are, but to say no might not be appreciated.
如果老闆找你做一個項目，但項目並不總是你最感興趣的。如果想要拒絕他，你可以建議其他人來做，或是告訴他你現在有多麼忙，直接說不行也許會讓你的老闆很不高興。
4. You don't know that? 你不知道麼?
Most bosses like to feel that they know everything, although you and the rest of the office may differ in opinion on that issue. Try beginning your sentence with, "You probably already know this ". This shows your boss that you respect their intelligence, even though you know better.
大多數老闆覺得自己懂得所有的東西，儘管你和辦公室的其他同事也許會在一件事情上和你的老闆有不同的觀點。試著這樣去說，“你或許已經知道這個”。這就讓你的老闆感覺到你尊重他的想法，即使你知道的更多一些。
5. You're late. 你遲到了。
Being late has come to be one of those privileges that may inconvenience you but is their seniority right. Telling them they are late could be seen as undermining their position over you.
上班遲到是對你而言很麻煩但卻是老闆們的特權之一。告訴老闆他們遲到了可能被看成你在藐視他們的地位。
6. Ooh, ugly tie! 哦，難看的領帶!
There may be times that your boss wears the ugliest tie on earth but it is not your place to tell them. They are aware how they dress and maybe the tie was a gift that they couldn't say no to wearing. Or maybe they just have bad taste, but that is their privilege.
也許有些時候你的老闆戴了世界上最醜的領帶，但是這並不是你應該告訴他們的。他們知道自己穿衣服的風格，也許這個領帶是一個他們不能不戴的禮物。或者他們只是有很差的品味，但那是他們的特權。
7. I hit your car. 我把你的車撞了!
Yes, it could happen that you bumped your boss' car in the parking lot. It's only right that you tell them what you did but it's still not the greatest thing to tell your boss.
當然，在停車場把你老闆的車撞了是可能發生的。你告訴他們是你乾的是正確的，但是這還不是你最應該告訴老闆的事情。
8. Who's the guy I saw your wife with at the bar last night? 昨天晚上在酒吧裡和你太太在一起的那個男的是誰啊?
This is one of those things that you really don't want to get involved with. If you tell your boss and then his wife proves you wrong, that could be the beginning of the end for you.
這是你最不該摻和進去的事情之一。如果你告訴你的老闆了，而她的太太又證實了那不是真的，那麼也許這將是你完蛋的開始。
9. How much do you make a year? 你一年掙多少錢啊?
We all would love to know the truth about that one, and maybe some boss' are free to discuss it.But generally, it's a big no, no.
我們都想去知道這個問題的答案，也許有些老闆並不介意去討論它。但是總體來說，這是一個很不合適的問題。
10. Can I have another raise? 能不能再給我漲一次工資?
Most companies have a set program for raises and you need to understand that plan so that you don't look foolish and ask for a raise out of turn. If you feel you're entitled then make sure you do a bit of research and find out the best time to ask.
大多數公司關於漲薪有自己的一套程序，你要了解這個程序，以至於自己不會很傻地要求額外的漲薪。如果你覺得自己有漲薪的資格，那麼要確保做一些調查，然後找出最合適的時機提出要求。
