話說英文畢竟跟咱們中文是不一樣，有時候語言也不僅僅是語言，因為它暗含了文化在裡頭。

比如這一期我們要學的三個表達，看上去字面意思好像很好理解，但是真實意思千差萬別。

舉個例子，“sporting house”可不是你想的“體育館”啊！去了會出大事的！

1）Sporting house不是體育館！

sporting house可不是體育館嘍，而是你男朋友一去你就可以甩手不要他的地方。

The sporting house is a building where prostitutes are available.

也就是那種工作者工作的地方，古代的“青樓”。

如果要說體育館，你可以說stadium；或者fitness center健身中心；gym健身房。

看幾個英語例句：

① The new stadium can hold 10,000 spectators.

新的體育場可以容納10,000名觀眾。

② Sporting houses are definitely illegal in China.

在我們大中國，“青樓”是違法的。

2）Study可不僅僅是學習

第2個要學習的表達叫做study。趕緊從第一個表達跳出來，洗洗腦。

Study很多人只知道表示學習，比如study English學英語。

但是study其實也是一個房間哦！

A study is a room in a house that is used for reading, writing, and studying.

也就是說study是一個用於閱讀，寫字，學習的地方——也就是咱們常說的“書房”。

看幾個例句：

① There is a big bookshelf in my study.

我書房裡有個很大的書架。

*shelf表示架子。

最後強調，書房直接說study，說成study room就有點累贅哦。書房是study！study！study！

3）Bring down the house不是推倒房子

Bring down the house，字面意思是把房子推倒，但是實際上，它經常被延伸成一個非常讚的表達。

Bring down the house means to get the applause，表示獲得別人的誇讚、掌聲、歡聲笑語、博得滿堂彩。

你想一下，當你開心的時候，歡笑聲是不是可以掀翻掉整個屋頂，把房子都推倒了，這就是bring down the house呀！

① Lily is a rising star as a soprano, always able to bring down the house during each performance.

莉莉是一顆冉冉升起的女高音之星，每次演出總是能夠獲得滿堂彩。

② I heard that your show brought down the house yesterday.

我聽說你昨天的秀大獲成功呀。
