Do you regret moving to the USA?

Sofjan Yang Mustopoh

I regret moving to America.I regret moving away from a country where who you know, who your family knows, what your skin color is, what tribe you belong to, and how much money you have to bribe determines your future; to America where none of the above count.I regret moving away from a country where Mob rules (Democracy means what ever majority says goes. ) to America where private right of the individual matter.I regret moving from a country where speaking out against the government would make you miss your family for a long time; to America where speaking out against the government is normal occurrence.I regret moving to America where I could start out as a University dropout, working odd jobs for 8 years. Owned a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Went bankrupt. Enrolled in a beauty college and obtained my Nail technician license. Worked my tail off, saved enough money. Enrolled in University of Kentucky. Got my bachelor of science in Computer science. Worked but unsatisfied .Re-enrolled in University of Kentucky. Took PCAT and got accepted into pharmacy school. And now I have been a Pharm. D. and have worked in a hospital for 8 years.I regret moving to America where I started out washing dishes and ended up on the top 10 percentile.I missed my home country food and fruits. It took me many years to ascend the ladder from Dishwasher, Construction worker, grocery van driver, Korean rest cook apprentice, Sushi apprentice, failed Chinese restaurant, Nail technician making ladies hand prettier , Computer scientist and now Pharmacy doctor / Pharmacist. But I have NOT regretted my move to USA.Zero regret !Now go back and insert “DO NOT” right before regret above.

我很後悔離開(我的祖國)這個國家,在那裡(我的祖國),你認識誰,你的家人認識誰,你的膚色是什麼,你屬於哪個部落,你要賄賂多少錢,等等,這些事情決定著你的未來;

I sympathize with you.And I know that police and the whole legal system is fucked. I too was falsely arrested for assault and then continued to get violations of no contact orders. I was lucky and got off on all of them, but it is so easy for this to haunt a person.Exactly as you describe, they will release you and then make you continue to show up at court dates to “check in" and it so happens that sometimes 1 year down the road, you can't make it back to court. Then there are warrants and new charges. This sucks. I am sorry to hear of these struggles.I hate the US too man and I was born here.

Yes, I do. For subjective and objective reasons, it is not a good country to live. I won't go into personal details as to why I regret moving here, but I will list some of the objective facts as to why I do not recommend anyone to move here. You can easily look these up for yourself. It's a country where people live to work, for a measly two weeks of vacation a year that is mostly used for sick days or family related issues. It's a country that doesn't give a rat's ass about the welfare of its people - look at the broken, overpriced healthcare system, little to no public transportation, no paid maternity leave, overpopulated prisons. It's a country where education, instead of lifting people up, drags them down into debt. Useless degrees are promoted and sold to students (think of Women's Studies and Communications). The student debt bubble is thought to be the cause of an upcoming recession. It's a country where the government cares so little about the health of its nation, but so much about big business. Agricultural business is subsidized, making unhealthy food cheap and abundant and healthy food unaffordable for most people. This results in obese, unhealthy people. The typical American diet full of processed carbs and sedentary lifestyle caused by cubicle jobs and constant need for car riding result in sickness. And let's not forget how expensive it is to be sick in America. You cannot know the cost of any procedure: all hospitals keep it secret until you visit a doctor, driving prices up. Even if you're insured, it is very common for insurance companies to deny coverage (even if your policy actually covers it) in hopes that you'll give up fighting for it, or die before you can get the necessary treatment. Consider also that most people don't have money to pay for a lawyer to fight the insurance company. To illustrate how expensive healthcare is, remember that most bankruptcy cases are caused by medical bills.Personally, my main concern is the healthcare system. With the demands of the American workplace, it is a challenge to keep a healthy lifestyle. In addition, it is very expensive to eat healthy. And getting sick is even more expensive. It's a rat race lifestyle, and if you value your mental and physical health, please do not move here.
