A Letter to the University President about the Canteen Service on Campus
January 12th, 2002
Dear Mr. President:
As an ordinary undergraduate① majoring in Mathematics, I'm proud of being a member of this world-famous university, but I'm afraid I'm not very content with the canteen service on campus.
Every coin has its two sides. So does the canteen service. As is known, the canteen was redecorated② last month. Now it becomes magnificent③ both inside and outside. We are bathed in pleasure and pride in such striking architecture. To be frank, we are happy that high-quality food and tasty dishes are available④ now. Besides, the service is also bettered than before.
However, in the meantime the prices of the food have risen so sharply⑤ that many poorer students can't afford them. In the long run, that will disturb their studies. We're in agreement that a university canteen should not only aim at earning money by means of raising prices. All of us hope the canteen can provide us with not only delicious but also inexpensive food. In addition, sometimes the canteen is too crowded. So I believe it is necessary to arrange⑥ some more seats for us.
Such are my suggestions about the canteen service on campus. I really hope you can take some effective measures to change it better. Thank you.
