02.29 “I don't like”的更高级说法,你知道吗?

Hello and everyone and welcome back to English with Lucy. Today I am going to teach you how to politely say that you don't like something.

大家好,欢迎来到跟着Lucy学英语。今天我要教你们如何礼貌地表达你不喜欢某事。

This is really really hard, even for British people, for native speakers. So I can only imagine how hard it is for you.

这个真的很难,即使是对英国人,对母语者来说都是的。所以我能想象到这对你们来说有多难。

I'm going to teach you 15 ways, then you can say I don't like something in a smart and polite way. Quickly before we get started, I'd just like to thank the sponsor of today's video.

我要教你们15种方法,然后你们就可以以一种更聪明礼貌的方式表达我不喜欢某事了。在我们开始之前,我要感谢今天视频的赞助商。

It is italki and if you haven't heard of I talked you before, it's a huge online database of both native and non-native teachers who give one-to-one video lessons 24 hours a day seven days a week. You can learn English and over 130 other languages from anywhere in the world, any time of day, any day of the week as long as you have a stable internet connection.

那就是italki,如果你以前没有听我说过的话,它是一个大型在线数据库,上面有母语和非母语的老师,他们全年无休地给你们提供一对一的视频课程。只要有稳定的网络连接,你们可以在世界任何地方学习英语以及超过130种其他的语言。

It's an incredibly affordable way of learning a language, much cheaper than an offline tutor or a Language Academy. So many students write to me and ask how can I meet and talk with native speakers.

这是一个超级划算的学习语言的方式,比线下导师或语言学校要便宜得多。很多人给我发信息问我如何找到母语者进行对话。

Well, italki is a really good option because not only do they have qualified teachers, they also have community teachers who will practice conversation with you. They've given me a special offer to pass on to you.

Italki是一个非常棒的选项,因为他们不仅有有资质的教师,还有社区教师来跟你练习对话。他们给通过我来送你们一个优惠。

You can get $10 worth of italki credits in your student wallet 48 hours after making your first purchase of any amount. That could be a free lesson.

你们可以在第一次购买任何数量的课程后的48小时内获得价值10美元的italki优惠券,优惠券会直接进入你们的学生钱包中。这价值一节课。

Number one, the first alternative for I don't like is I am sick of. . . I am sick of. . .

第一个,我不喜欢的第一个替代说法就是我很讨厌......我讨厌......

Or if you want extra emphasis, I am absolutely sick of. . . An example, one my mother used to say to me a lot when I was growing up.

或者你想要额外强调,可以说我真的很讨厌......举个例子,我妈妈在我成长过程中经常说的一句话。

I am sick of hearing you complain. I am absolutely sick of hearing you complain.

我讨厌听你抱怨。我真的讨厌听你抱怨。

I don't like hearing you complain. Now whilst this might not seem polite, I don't like is quite direct, it's quite to the point and in British English, especially in our culture, we don't like to be too direct.

我不喜欢听你抱怨。尽管这个听起来似乎不太礼貌,我不喜欢非常直接,它直截了当,而在英式英语中,尤其是我们的文化中,我们不喜欢太直接。

I am sick of is still quite intense, but it's not as direct. If you want to be a bit less intense, you could also say number two, which is I don't appreciate. . .

我讨厌仍然很激烈,但是它没那么直接。如果你想要表现得不那么激烈,你还可以说第二个,那就是我不欣赏......

I don't appreciate. . . With emphasis, I really don't appreciate. . .

我不欣赏......如果要强调,可以说,我真的不欣赏......

An example, I really don't appreciate the way she spoke to me.This is a much more polite way of saying I don't like.

举个例子,我真的不欣赏他跟我说话的方式。这是表达我不喜欢的礼貌得多的方式。

The meaning is conveyed very clearly. We know you mean that you don't like it, but I don't appreciate is a much more highbrow way of saying it.

意思已经表达得很清楚了。我们知道你指的是你不喜欢它,但是我不欣赏这个表达很高雅。

Number three, back to being intense. I can't stand. . .

第三个,说回激烈的言辞表达。我无法忍受......

I cannot stand. . . An example, I can't stand people who don't know how to queue properly.

我无法忍受......举个例子,我无法忍受不好好排队的人。

This is true. I can't stand people that push into queues.

这是真的。我无法忍受插队的人。

Oh my, oh, my word. I've spoken many times about how much I love a good queue.

哦,我的天,哦,我的天。我说过很多次我有多喜欢井然有序的队列。

I've never quite got my head around the fact that every time I join a queue, I'm always at the end. So depressing, isn't it?

我总是不能理解一件事,那就是每次我排队,我都会在队尾。很令人沮丧,不是吗?

Number four, another less intense version is I'm not fond of. . .This is really quite polite.

第四个,另一个不那么激烈的表达,那就是我不是很喜欢......这个表达很礼貌。

I'm really not fond of whatever you don't like. And this means that it's not that I dislike it, it's just that I don't love it.

我真的不是很喜欢,加上你不喜欢的任何事情。这个表达的意思是我不是不喜欢它,只是不喜爱它。

Haha, exactly the same thing, but sounds better. An example, I'm not fond of dancing, but I'll give it a go.

哈哈,完全就是一样的,但是听上去更好。举个例子,我不是很喜欢跳舞,但是我还是要尝试一下。

To give something a go is to try something or attempt something. It's a much nicer way of saying I don't like. . .

尝试某事指的是努力尝试做某事。这是表达我不喜欢的更善意的方式。

Another one, that is very similar. Number five is I'm not a fan of. . . , or I'm not a big fan of. . .

另一个,很类似。第五个是我不是......的粉丝,或者我不是......的拥趸。

I'm not a big fan of. . . So remember I'm not fond of. . . , I'm not a fan of. . .

我不是......拥趸。所以请记住我不是很喜欢......,我不是......的粉丝。

We need the article there. I'm not a big fan of early starts.

我们在这里要加上冠词。我不是早起的拥趸。

I'm not a big fan of early starts. This means getting up early in the morning.

我不是早起的拥趸。早起的意思是早上起得很早。

Now number six is quite similar to the previous two, but a lot of students make mistakes with it. It is I'm not keen on. . . .

第六个跟前两个很类似,但是很多学生会在这里出错。那就是我不热衷于......

Now the previous two had the of preposition. We have on, fond of, fan of, keen on.

前面两个的介词是of。在这个短语里是on,fond of,fan of,keen on。

If you remember these three phrases, then it will look very good in exams if you use them correctly. I'm not keen on or if you want emphasis, I'm not so keen on and actually that isn't really emphasis, that almost reduces the phrase further.

如果你把这三个短语记住了,那么如果你在考试中正确地使用它们,这会看上去非常棒。我不热衷于......,或者你想要强调,可以说我不那么热衷于,其实这也不是真的在强调,差不多是进一步减弱了这个短语的语气。

I'm not keen on. . . I'm not so keen on. . .

我不热衷于......我不那么热衷于......

I'm not very keen on. . . . An example, I'm not so keen on her new boyfriend, meaning I don't like her new boyfriend but I don't want to say that.

我不是很热衷于......举个例子,我不那么喜欢她的新男友,意思是我不喜欢她的新男友,但是我不想直说。

So I'm going to say I'm not so keen on him. Now the previous three were very very polite, but let's go back to some more intense ones.

所以我会说,我不那么喜欢他。前面三个都很有礼貌,但是我们回到更激烈的说法吧。

Number seven, I can't bear, I cannot bear something. This means that you really don't like something.

第七个,我无法忍受,我无法忍受某事。它的意思是你真的很不喜欢某事。

It's very very similar to I can't stand. An example, I can't bear the way Tony speaks to his wife.

它跟 I can't stand 很相似。举个例子,我无法忍受托尼跟他妻子说话的方式。

I don't like it. I cannot stand it.

我不喜欢。我无法忍受。

It's terrible. This means that you just cannot put up with it.

太糟糕了。这意味着你忍不了。

You can't endure it. Now number eight is an interesting one.

你忍耐不了。第八个很有趣。

It is I've had enough of. . . I've had enough of something.

那就是我受够了......我受够了某事。

So you're not directly saying I don't like something. . It's just you've reached your limit of being able to accept something.

所以你没有直接说我不喜欢某事。只是你已经达到了接受某事的能力极限。

For example, I've had enough of scam phone calls. I could take it up to a certain point, but now it's overstepped the mark and I've had enough.

比如,我受够了骚扰电话。我能忍它忍到某个时刻,但是现在已经越线了,我受够了。

That's very British. I'm sure lots of British children have heard their parents say that they've had enough of our behaviour.

这个很英式风格。我确信很多英国的孩子们都听过他们的家长说他们受够了我们的行为。

Now back to a really polite one. Number nine, if someone is asking you to do something, but it's. . . it's not your thing, you don't like what they're offering or what they're asking you to do, you can say I'm not into. . . or I'm really not into. . .

现在回到很礼貌的说法。第九个,如果某人要你做某事,但是它......它不是我的风格,你不喜欢他们提供给你的或者要求你要做的事,你可以说我对......你感冒,或者我对......真的不感冒。

It's not my thing. It's what you're saying.

这不是我的风格。这只是你说的而已。

An example, sorry, I'm really not into that type of music. I don't want to say I don't like the music that you're playing, but I'm not into it.

举个例子,不好意思,我真的对那种音乐不太感冒。我不想说我不喜欢你播放的音乐,但是我对它不感冒。

It's not my thing. It's quite a nice thing to say.

它不是我的风格。这样说很好。

Another more polite one is number 10. I'll pass on. . . or I think I'll pass on. . .

另一个更礼貌的说法是第十个。我不会去.....,或者我觉得我不会去......

An example, I think I'll pass on visiting grandma after she was so rude to me last time. I'll pass on that.

举个例子,我想我不回去看望祖母,在她上次对我如此无礼之后。我不去。

I don't want to do it. It's not literally I don't like.

我不想做这件事。这并不是指我不喜欢。

It means I don't want to do something. I think I'll just avoid doing that.

它指的是我不想做某事。我想我会避免做这件事。

You're implying that you don't want to do something, that you don't like doing it, so I have included it in the list. Number 11, a very British one.

你表达的是你不想要做某事,你不喜欢做它,所以我把这个说法加入了进来。第11个,非常英式的说法。

I think this was in one of my first ever common British expressions video. It's it's not my cup of tea.

我想它曾经出现在我关于英式英语中最常见的表达的视频之一里。这不是我的那杯茶。

It's not my cup of tea. Again, another way of saying it's not my thing, I'm not into that.

这不是我的那杯茶。同样的,另一种表达对某事不感冒的说法。

An example, thanks for the invite but ice-skating really isn't my cup of tea. This is actually what my fiancee said when we were dating.

I invited him ice-skating and he, at six foot six, told me it wasn't his cup of tea, when actually it's because he'd been before and he looked like a baby giraffe, would just limb(s) everywhere. I would pay good money to see that.

我邀请他去溜冰,但是身高六英尺六英寸的他告诉我那不是他的那杯茶,其实是因为他以前溜过,他看起来就像一只长颈鹿宝宝,劈着岔到处溜。我愿意花大价钱看到那一幕。

I wouldn't want the osteopath bill. Okay, this one, it's brilliant.

我不想收到治疗骨折的账单。好的,这个很棒。

I love this one. I hope you have the confidence to use this one.

我喜欢这个说法。我希望你们有使用这个说法的信心。

It is it doesn't tickle my fancy. It really doesn't tickle my fancy.

那就是它让我提不起兴趣。它真的无法让我提起兴趣。

Ah, it's brilliant. It's the same as it's not my cup of tea, it's not my thing.

啊,真是太棒了。这个跟不是我的那杯茶,这不是我的风格意思一样。

An example, going on a double date with my ex-boyfriend and his new supermodel girlfriend really doesn't tickle my fancy. Number 13, if you don't want to use tickle my fancy, you can just say it's not for me, not for me.

举个例子,跟我的前男友和她的超模新女友进行四人约会真的无法让我提起兴趣。第13个,如果你不想要使用让我提起兴趣,你可以就说这不适合我,不适合我。

An example, sorry, I just think that the knitting club isn't for me. I'm really sorry.

举个例子,我认为编织俱乐部不适合我。真的不好意思。

Number 14, a very nice way. I'd say it's maybe slightly more American than is British.

第14个,很好的说法。我要说的是这个说法更偏美式英语一些。

I'm not crazy about. . . I'm just not crazy about. . .

我对......不狂热。我对......不狂热。

I'm not crazy about golf, but I'll come along all the same. I don't love golf, I really don't like golf actually, but I will come along anyway.

我对高尔夫不狂热,但还是我还是会去的。我不喜欢高尔夫,事实上我真的不喜欢高尔夫,但是无论如何我还是会去的。

All the same is the same as anyway. And number 15, this is quite a good one if you want to offer an alternative. if you don't like something and you would prefer to do something else.

“All the same”跟“anyway”的意思一样。第15个,如果你想要提供一个替代品,如果你不喜欢某事,并且你更想做另一件事,那么这个说法很合适。

It is I'm more of a hmm person. For example, I don't think I'll come to the dog shelter with you.

那就是我是一个更......的人。比如,我想我不会跟你去小狗收容所。

I'm more of a cat person. I think that's quite a nice way of saying I don't like something.

我是一个更喜欢猫的人。我想这是一个很好的表达我不喜欢某事的方法。

I don't want to do it but I would be, you know, up for doing something else. Right, that is it for today's lesson.

我不想做这件事,但是我会想做另一件事。好的,今天的课程就到这里。

I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you learnt something. You have homework.

我希望你们喜欢,希望你们有所得。你们有作业。
