如今“房奴”這個名詞已經越來越成為我們社會所共同關注的熱點。同時，“房奴”的翻譯也成了熱點。有些人將house slave 譯成“房奴"，其實這不是表示這層意思的地道英語。house slave與 field slave 形成對比,指當年美國從事家務勞動的黑奴,即"家奴”;而 field slave 是從事農耕勞動的黑奴,即“田奴"。而“房奴“的深層意思是“按揭購房者"，譯為mortgage slave更地道
mortgage[ˈmɔːrɡɪdʒ]表示“抵押，按揭，抵押貸款”的意思。
例如:1.房奴一詞被用來描述那些按揭還款超過月薪一半的人。
eg.Mortgage slave is adopted to describe those people whose mortgage payment is more than half of their monthly salary.
例如:2.隨著社會競爭的日益加劇，越來越多的人成為房奴。
eg.With the increasing of social competition, there are more and more people becoming mortgage slave.
