I struggle with China being labeled a developing country. Really struggle. China is a socially advanced nation with some of the oldest and most well-established traditions, and also one of the world's most advanced and time-honored cultures. It’s time we looked past labeling people based solely on economics. If you travel through Asian nations and particularly South East Asia, you will see that Chinese culture is at the very root of many these nations, as if it were the seed. You will also see that China today is at the root of the development of many of these nations via business development, government assistance, and social programs. If we continue to focus on China’s overseas spending, you would soon start to realize that this is not the sort of activity that would be attributed to a country that is ‘developing’ and understand that China has massive economic might. Is there no poverty in China? There is much. But it is their own choice as they have enormous resources to be able to solve these problems. They have made the choice not to focus on short-term alleviation of poverty and advancement of social welfare for citizens, but to spend their resources on a longer term vision. A vision of a more globally powerful China with long-term benefits for the people of China and the stance of CCP.Thus, based on social development and economics, I think it is a big stretch to continue calling China ‘a developing nation’. A fast developing superpower would be more appropriate. How should Western countries respond? Western countries have no response. Western countries are crippled by democracy, ideology, social division, lack of uniting beliefs and values, short-term thinking, and the heavy economic burden of having to sustain huge welfare systems which limits their abilites to take action or stances based on ideals at the risk of loosing trade. The global institutions that have held world order for so long are irrelevant to China, excepting for when they align with her own goals and until such time it sets the values and direction of these institutions or creates its own as replacements. How is this possible? By not going to war, and by playing a simple game of numbers. If you calculate the number of people in Asia, and those to be connected via the One Belt One Road, it becomes a majority grouping. A grouping of which China would be the economic superpower and military superpower. Suddenly, Western thinking and power are in the minority, and China is free to create and set the agenda for the world. Is this a bad thing? Probably not. Just different, you can still go get your coffee each morning, go to work, raise a family or whatever you want. But it will be a shift away from individualism, western values of free speech/free media, and a shift in the conceptual way western people think about human rights. The future question may be, ‘How will India, Russia and the Muslim world respond to China as a world superpower?’.

Western countries will do more trade with China and try to make money. Many developing countries will also have an option make money by doing trade with China. It will increase overall wealth of this planet. What western countries need to fearMore competition in trade from the east.More innovation from China will compensate less innovation coming from Europe.France will be more convinced that neocolonialism is bad, or probably Chinese will teach them a lesson. The US will have to deal with China and Chinese veto in security council before starting another war. A developed China will make any war started by the US more expensive. Imagine Syrian war doesn’t end because China openly supports some anti West group and western countries are getting terrorist attacks more often than before. What western countries need not to fearJob lossChina polluting too much.

Linus SkovChina, to some extent, is already a developed country. It’s has underdeveloped rural regions and a population poor in comparison to that of the West, but it’s still the world’s second or third largest economy, and one of the fastest growing, if the CCP is to be believed. So we don’t need to guess. We can already see the reactions. The answer differs from Westerner to Westerner, since there are probably over a billion of us, by any reasonable definition. Mostly, the reaction is divided between those who:don’t really understand economics and geopolitics, and think that both are zero-sum games, and that China’s rise is a direct attack on the West, and an attempt at assailing our positiongrasp the basics, and know that a wealthier China does not need to come at the cost of a wealthy West. In fact, the growing Chinese middle class and the industrious Chinese business community presents a lot of opportunities for Westerners. Those who don’t resort to a binary worldview will undoubtedly attempt to capitalize on the wealth of China, as they have capitalized on it’s poverty.Unfortunately, the first category seems to be the one most in vogue at the moment, among Westerners and Chinese both. In the US, for example, the current President seems to adhere to the idea that China is directly stealing our wealth, as if that’s possible. Meanwhile, a lot of Chinese seem to think that China becoming wealthier must mean the West will be pushed down the ranks, to the position that China has previously occupied.I prophesize that neither of those things will happen, fortunately. I just hope this belief doesn’t cause any conflicts
