1. 表示“感激”“讚賞”等，通常為及物動詞，其後可接名（代）詞、動名詞、名詞性從句等作賓語，但不能接不定式。如：
I really appreciate a good cup of tea. 有好茶一杯，我就真樂在其中了。
I appreciate your giving me so much of your time. 真感激你為我花了這麼多時間。
I appreciate being given this opportunity. 非常感謝給了我這個機會。
I appreciate that you have come here so early. 感謝你來得這麼早。
其後不直接跟 if 或when引導的從句，若語義上需要接這類從句，需藉助 it。如：
I (would) appreciate it if(when)……；如果……我將十分感激。（重要五顆星）
I would appreciate it if you paid in cash.
假如你支付現金的話，我會不勝感激。
I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't mention it.
如果你不提它，我會很感激。
We really appreciate it when she offered to help. 她來幫忙了，我們十分感激。
I would much appreciate it if you would arrange this for us. 如果你能替我安排這事，我將非常感激。
2. appreciate後大多接“事”作賓語，而很少接“人”作賓語；thank只能接“人”作賓語。比較：
正：We appreciate your help. 我們感謝你的幫助。
誤：We appreciate you for your help.（沒有這種用法）
正：He thanked her for her help. 他感謝她的幫助。
誤：He thanked her help.
注意：
thank+表示人的詞語
appreciate+表示物的詞語（大多情況）

說明了appreciate真的能接表示人的詞語做賓語，只是詞典上的例子比較少。這個觀點與當前的許多詞典和教輔材料相悖的。
3. appreciate+動名詞(這個動名詞有時候可以帶上邏輯主語)
[V -ing] I don't appreciate being treated like a second-class citizen.
我不願被人當作二等公民。
[VN -ing] We would appreciate you letting us know of any problems.

二、後續賓語問題

三、後接if或when從句的問題
其後不直接跟if或when引導的從句，若語義上需要接這類從句，需藉助it。如：
I would appreciate it very much if you would help me with it. 如果你能幫助我做這事，我會十分感激。
We really appreciate it when she offered to help. 她來幫忙了，我們十分感激。
四、有關修飾語的問題
要表示程度，可用 deeply, highly, (very) much 等副詞修飾。如：
I deeply appreciate your kindness. 我深深感謝你的好意。
He highly appreciated their help. 他非常感謝他們的幫助。
注意：much 修飾 appreciate時，只能置於其前，而不能置於其後但 very much 卻可以)：
正：We much appreciate your invitation.
正：We appreciate your invitation very much.
誤：We appreciate your invitation much.
