可別小看了定冠詞the的作用,有它沒它意思可能大不同。

這家印刷公司出現了赤字。

這裡的人們依然手工製衣。
☑I took my sister by the hand.
我拉著姐姐的手。

☑Most exports went by sea.
大部分出口貨物走海運。
☑We bought a small cottage by the sea.
我們買了一棟靠海的小屋。

☑你必須親自參加這個會議。
You must attend this meetingin person.
☑他替我哥哥來幫忙了,還帶了啤酒和吃的。
The help arrived in the person ofmy brother, who brought beer and food.

in front of VS. in the front of
前者表示“在……外部的前面”,後者表示“在……內部的前面”
☑There are many trees in front ofthe classroom.
教室的前面有很多棵樹。(樹在教室外)
☑There is a big desk in the front ofthe classroom.
教室的前面有一張大課桌。(桌子在室內)

前者表示“萬一……”,後者則表示“在……的情況下”

萬一失火,請拉警鈴。
